It all began in 1993 out of a facility in Cape Wolfe, a small community along the West Shore of PEI, Howard’s Cove Shellfish Ltd., a raw molluscan shellfish processing facility came to be. It wasn’t long before the increasing demands in the live shellfish market became a reality and led to the 1998 Grand Opening of its new modern shellfish processing facility in Freeland PEI. Today managed by Randy Cooke Howard’s Cove Shellfish Ltd. process clams, quahaugs and oysters and supplies customers in both Canada and the United States.
In the Spring of 2004, Howard’s Cove Shellfish Ltd. took on an exciting renovation project that added a much needed structure to the existing facility to provide for processing, storage and office space. The addition, which close to doubled the plant in size has a ground and second floor level and created a processing facility of approximately 6000 sq. ft.
Howard’s Cove Shellfish Ltd. strategically manages its own 200-acre lease located directly behind the processing facility in the clean, pristine waters of the Conway Narrows. The scenic sand hills which border to the North make this a popular spot for adventurous tourists to explore during the summer months.
Our shellfish lease makes it possible to purchase large quantities of raw material throughout the respective harvesting seasons, store it and have fresh product available throughout the year. This lease provides a place for short term and long term storage of raw material. The line of sand hills behind our facility has a break through that allows ocean water to enter and refresh our lease daily. This great system produces oysters with a clean sea crisp taste.
Howard’s Cove Shellfish Ltd. currently processes quahaugs and three main company brands of oysters 1. Cooke’s Cove Brand, 2. North Point Brand and 3. Indian Creek Brand.
Quality and shellfish safety is top priority and we take great pride in the quality of the finished product.
